The Nurse Practitioner/Medical Clinic Director serves as the primary staff clinician for the Oasis Free Clinics, a nonprofit free medical and dental clinic serving low income, uninsured adults living in Midcoast Maine. The clinic is open Monday - Friday from 8:00am - 4:00pm; there are no evening or weekend hours nor call. This is a salaried position. 

Because our services are free, our care model allows our team to focus on providing care based solely on patient needs without the time pressure of traditional primary care practice. This is a unique opportunity to make a difference while also making a living.

Requirements: 

  1. Graduate of an accredited nurse practitioner training program with training in primary care. 
  2. Current, unrestricted, State of Maine license as a Nurse Practitioner (APRN-C) required.
  3. Training and professional background in primary care required. 2+ years of experience preferred.
  4. DEA Number is required.

Clinical Responsibilities:

  • Obtains complete medical history and physical data on patients during office visit.
  • Synthesizes data to determine preliminary diagnosis and therapeutic plan.
  • Orders and interprets appropriate laboratory and diagnostic procedures and tests.
  • Consults with, refers to and/or collaborates with volunteer and community providers and staff in managing care of Oasis patients.
  • Provides support to the dental clinic with medical advice and prescription assistance to stabilize a dental emergency until the patient can be seen by a dental provider.
  • Provides monitoring and continuity of care of patients between visits.
  • Reviews labs/images/referrals for all patients.
  • Processes medication refill requests for all patients, including dispensing medications onsite.
  • Assists volunteer providers with clinical care, as needed.
  • Recommends community resources to meet patient needs.
  • Triages patient telephone calls and provides consultation when necessary.

Clinical Operation Responsibilities

  • Screens, orients and oversees clinical and student volunteers.
  • Manages Oasis dispensary, including assessing and procuring inventory.
  • Manages Oasis point of care lab, including policy and procedure development, quality monitoring, staff training, etc.
  • Provides signoff for Community Prescription Assistance Program medications for Oasis patients.
  • Provides oversight of medical data entry.
  • Participates in evaluation of current practice, standards of care, and quality measures.
  • Attends required meetings and participates in committees as needed.
